Presentation

Report

This report will discuss the pros and cons of different ways of presenting my work. There are many ways to present a work, both physically and digitally, to an audience. I will discuss how these can relate specifically to my title sequence, and specifically the ones I am considering using. I will also discuss promotional material.

Firstly is the most obvious, popular video sharing platform YouTube; this is a way of digitally presenting your video on the internet. YouTube has always been a very easy and accessible platform to present any kind of video work or content, as it allows for anybody to upload videos instantly.

A big pro of YouTube is it’s search algorithm, which can be manipulated by properly naming and tagging your video to get your content found. This is great for my title sequence, as it allows me to try and increase engagement and viewership with my video.

It allows video of any length and file size, a big pro for anyone with large videos to upload. My project is a small title sequence, so not that important for me, but certainly it’s a plus that’s good to have.

A big downside of YouTube is that copyrighted music, like my music in the video that is from a game, can get advertising placed on your video by the copyright holder. This is an issue if you monetise your videos, but for my title sequence not so much as I aim to make no money from it.

Another way to present a video project like mine could be to do it physically, In this case a live screening. This way you can directly show your project to the audience physically and get immediate feedback.

A big pro of this way of presenting is that you don’t need to worry about getting your video out there for someone to watch first, like with uploading onto the internet. Your audience is there in person, allowing you to very easily collect plenty of feedback, and allowing you and them to exchange any questions or advice directly. This can aid in gathering more meaningful criticism than you may get from an indirect internet comment/message.

A con of a live screening is that some people may not feel comfortable sharing their work directly in front of an audience like that, in which case it may not be for them. In my case I feel fine sharing my title sequence with others.

Another con is that the audience’s criticism may actually be less helpful in person than indirectly. Some audience members may feel they need to be more complimentary when delivering a direct critique, which they may not be as much when delivering something indirectly and not to the creator’s face. Personally I can see this as a downside for my project, as I want the most helpful feedback I can possibly get to aid my skills in the future.

Moving on to promotional material, this is a great way to share a product or a products image with others.

On YouTube it is vitally important to think about a good thumbnail, which serves almost as promotion for your video to daw people in, give them an idea of the overall video in just an image, and hopefully get them to watch and engage. A thumbnail is a good piece of promotional material for my project, as it is a video project shared through YouTube.

Another piece of promotional material, physical and quite traditional, is a promotional poster. These are physical posters hung around to promote a work, and are a great way to get your product out to people in the real world. This could potentially work for my product, as a poster advertising a video could convince people to go out and watch the video, almost like a movie poster. Realistically though this would normally be a digital form of marketing for a project like mine as the poster would be made for posting on social media, something a project like mine could definitely utilise.

Promotional Material

This is the promotional poster that I created to coincide my project. I decided on a poster, as I liked the idea of a digital poster to advertise on social media.

Feedback

I finally got to present the final version of a title sequence to an audience, collecting their useful feedback. This task will really help now that the FMP is over, as it allows me to look over the whole thing and know what people think, along with helping my learning for my continued career.
