This week consisted of conducting some additional secondary research, to better strengthen my knowledge of my subject matter, and also some after effects experimentation. There was not a lot going on this week, but I have quite a few things I need to get done for the next one.
For my secondary research, I looked at the games of Final Fantasy VII and its remake, and their respective intro sequences. From carrying out this task I have learned a greater understanding of my chosen source material's context and visual style, as well as how to adapt a project to a pre-existing source material. I think I need to improve on my analysis skills, to garner an even greater understanding of title sequences, as well as how to pick apart a visual style. This task highlighted my weakness with analysis and researching context.
I looked a small amount into camera angles, from which I learned the use of each angle and what ideas/themes they are commonly used to represent. From this I gained a greater understanding of the creative choices behind why certain angles are chosen.
My experimentation focused on further learning of the 3D camera feature in After Effects. From this task I have learned a much greater understanding of the 3D tools at hand, and how to appropriately make use of them to the best of my abilities. Going forward, I need to improve my skills in this technique, which I will do as I use it more later in the project. This task highlighted my weakness with understanding virtual 3D space, and my newness with the 3D tools in After Effects.
The work here has shaped my project to come, by giving me a heightened knowledge on creative choices I can make during my project; from aesthetic style to composition, I now have I lot more inspiration and insight on the creative choices I should make while creating my product. It has shaped my skill in after effects, and has helped me gain a great deal of skill in understanding 3D tools.
