Week two was entirely taken up with writing my contextual report, which took quite a lot of writing and research into the many areas of my field. I had to look towards the history of title sequences, as well as the practitioners that work in the field and have provided innovation towards it over the years (Saul Bass and Kyle Cooper).
This task allowed me to really dig deep into what my chosen subject is really all about, and look at what the masters of the craft have achieved for me to take inspiration and motivation from. Seeing what kinds of styles they use, and how they look at the film itself to create remarkable sequences of imagery linking into the themes and ideas of the movie as a whole.
I have learnt, through this task, the general idea of what a title sequence is and what kind of work and final outcome produced it will entail. It has given me a better understanding of the medium as an art form, and how it is effectively used in movies, television, and videogames.
Overall, this task has highlighted my weakness with writing large essays, and collecting relevant research to write about.
The work carried out here has shaped my contextual knowledge on the medium of title sequences, and now with my knowledge of Kyle Cooper, my secondary research stage of the project will be formed somewhat by looking at his title sequences. The work of my chosen practitioners has been very useful for shaping my ideas and inspirations for what I will create.
